Where to Buy
Q: Can I buy products directly from J.W. Speaker?
A: J.W. Speaker products are available through a worldwide network of dealers and distributors. Due to the breadth of our product line, we are unable to sell directly, at the “end-user” level. Please refer to our Dealer Locator to find a J.W. Speaker Dealer & store location.
To find a J.W. Speaker supplier, you can contact one of our Distribution partners.
Q: Do you service lights and/or sell replacement components (ex. lenses, flashtubes, etc.)
A: Due to our designs & manufacturing process, J.W. Speaker LED lighting is not serviceable. We advise against opening up the lamps because it compromises the factory sealing conditions and can allow outside contaminants and/or moisture into the lamp. As such, that voids the warranty.
If the failure appears to be a manufacturing defect, please contact your dealer or distributor. (Note: Incandescent & Halogen bulbs are serviceable)
Q: Where can I find light output and dimensions?
A: Output specifications can be found on our Specification Sheets, available on the Model pages. Educational information about Lumens and other lighting terminology can be found here.
Installation
Q: My light doesn’t work properly.
A: Before you contact your dealer or distributor about returning a light, please conduct these simple tests to confirm that the problem really is a faulty light.
If it is a warrant-able issue, please contact your dealer or distributor. They would also be the ones you’d need to work with to make a warranty claim.
Q: Will I need to aim my headlights once installed?
A: This is always recommended after installation. For standard aiming instructions, click here.
Note: Wranglers only have a vertical adjustment screw.
Q: What if my headlights need horizontal adjustment?
A: Please refer to your authorized dealer if you need help with this issue.
Q: I have condensation inside my light.
A: Condensation is a naturally occurring phenomenon and will happen in any light given the proper conditions. It shouldn’t last more than a couple of hours. Double check your lights after that, and if you find water inside the housing after a couple hours you’ll want to contact the authorized retailer where you purchased it. Click here for more information.
Q: Do I need one LHT and one RHT headlight for my vehicle?
A: No. LHT means “Left Hand Traffic” and RHT means “Right Hand Traffic,” referring to which side of the road a driver uses.
For instance, a driver in the UK is Left Hand Traffic and would use two LHT lights; a driver in Canada is Right Hand Traffic would use two RHT lights. Do you refer to it as RHD (right hand drive)? RHD = LHT (left hand traffic), LHD = RHT (right hand traffic)
Q: What’s the difference between DOT and ECE?
A: These are driving regulations based on your location. Most countries around the world have adopted one set of standards or the other, and for headlights to be street legal they must meet and be marked with the regulations adopted by that country.
DOT regulations are created by the United States Department of Transportation, for use in the U.S. & Canada. Meeting DOT lighting standards guarantees your lights are federally compliant in the United States for visibility, durability, and reliability to secure the safety of others.
ECE regulations come from the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe. ECE versions feature DRL & FP functions. ECE-compliant guarantees your lights are compliant in the European Union and in non-European countries that have adopted ECE Regulations for visibility, durability, and reliability.
For my Motorcycle
Q: What light do I need for my bike?
A: Enter the Make, Model & Year of your motorcycle with our Motorcycle Garage to find the headlight and mounting hardware that works with your bike.
Q: Do I need a mounting ring?
Refer to the Motorcycle Headlight Fitment Guide to see if your bike needs a Mounting Ring Kit, available for fairing mounts on older model bikes.
Q: My adaptive motorcycle light does not function properly.
A: Our Adaptive Series headlights (Models 8790 Adaptive, 8690 Adaptive and 8691 Adaptive) require forward motion to remain ON and operate properly. A “lean test” in the garage is not a sufficient test. Optics may not respond to the static lean and require forward motion to test correctly.
If the light does not operate properly when driving, double check that it is indeed an Adaptive Version. We manufacture both adaptive versions and non-adaptive versions, so you may have purchased a non-adaptive version.
Q: Are J.W. Speaker motorcycle headlights plug & play?
A: Our current motorcycle line-up consists of standard 5 ¾” and 7″ round headlights. These lamps are designed to be as plug and play as possible and is so with the vast majority of V-twin bikes. Unique to LED head-lamps are extended heat sinks on the back of the lamps.
On certain models of bikes including those that have the standard 5 ¾” and 7″ headlights, generally of the metric variety, depth of the standard buckets may not fit an LED. J.W. Speaker is proud to supply a growing variety of fitment solutions for all bikes to make installations as plug and play as possible.
For my Jeep
Q: Are J.W. Speaker Jeep lights plug & play?
A: Our Model 8700 Evolution J Series headlights and Model 279 J Series tail lights are designed to provide a true plug & play installation on JK Jeeps. Due to the unique (and varied) connectors used by Chrysler on the fog lights, there will likely be some wiring modifications required for fog light installs.
Q: Which headlights do I need for my Jeep?
2007+ Wranglers: | Model 8700 Evolution J |
Older Wranglers: | Model 8700 Evolution 2 |
Q: Which fog lights do I need for my Jeep?
2014+ Wranglers: | Model 6145 J |
Older Wranglers: | Model 6145 |
Q: Can the half-halo on the Model 8700 Evolution J headlights operate independently (e.g. as Daytime Running Lights)?
A: The Evolution J headlights were designed to be compatible with Chrysler’s wiring systems. In European (and other ECE) countries, the half-halo can operate as a DRL. In North America, it cannot. If your North American vehicle has Daytime Running Lights, they operate through the High Beam Circuit. The half-halo will operate whenever the headlights are on, but there is no way to separately power the half-halo optics in this case.
Q: Can your tail lights be used with existing accessories like rock guards?
A: The taillights have been designed to replace stock taillights, so aftermarket accessories should fit. In some cases, a slightly longer screw (#8-16 x 2 ¼” or longer) might be required.
Q: How do I fix hyper-flashing?
A: If you are experiencing hyper-flashing, there may be several things going on. Please refer to this troubleshooting guideline.
